Sie wurde bereits 1531 vom Ampelografen Rui Fernandes erw\u00e4hnt. Sie kommt nur selten reinsortig zum Einsatz, h\u00e4ufiger ist sie Teil einer roten Cuv\u00e9e. Heute entstehen die besten Exemplare auf der Set\u00fabal-Halbinsel, in der N\u00e4he von Lissabon. Die Rebsorte l\u00e4sst kraftvolle und aromatische Weine entstehen, die durch ein gutes Alterungspotenzial gekennzeichnet sind.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Portwein-Pionier Jos\u00e9 Maria da Fonseca pflanzte Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts Castel\u00e3o-Reben auf der Halbinsel Set\u00fabal auf einem Weinberg namens \u201ePeriquita\u201c. Der Wein von hier entwickelte sich zu einem so gro\u00dfen Erfolg, dass die Rebsorte heute noch in Set\u00fabal unter dem Synonym Periquita bekannt ist. In anderen portugiesischen Regionen nennt man sie auch Jo\u00e3o de Santar\u00e9m oder Castel\u00e3o Franc\u00eas.<\/p>\n<h2>Was zeichnet Castel\u00e3o aus?<\/h2>\n<p>Auf Basis mehrerer DNA-Analysen kann davon ausgegangen werden, dass es sich bei Castel\u00e3o um eine nat\u00fcrliche Kreuzung zwischen Cayetana Blanca und Alfrocheiro handelt. Die fr\u00fch reifende Castel\u00e3o Traube tendiert zur Kleinbeerigkeit und zum Verrieseln, sie ist jedoch vergleichsweise widerstandsf\u00e4hig gegen Krankheiten. Am besten reift sie in einem <a href=\"\/magazin\/weinwissen\/beste-voraussetzungen-klima-und-wein\/\">warmen Klima<\/a> aus. Die Sorte wird prim\u00e4r in Rotwein-Cuv\u00e9es eingesetzt, reinsortig findet man sie selten. Die Rebsorte findet sich aber auch in manchen <a href=\"\/magazin\/weinwissen\/portwein-sherry-co-starkes-stueck\/\">Portweinen<\/a>, <a href=\"\/magazin\/weinwissen\/rose-wein\/\">Ros\u00e9weinen<\/a> und auch <a href=\"https:\/\/www.weinfreunde.de\/magazin\/weinwissen\/schaumweine-champagner-sekt-cremant-cava-co\/\">Schaumweinen<\/a>. Die Anbaufl\u00e4che in Portugal betrug im Jahr 2016 12.580 Hektar, jedoch mit r\u00fcckl\u00e4ufiger Tendenz. Dennoch geh\u00f6rt Castel\u00e3o nach wie vor zu den meist angebauten Rebsorten Portugals. Auf der Pen\u00ednsula de Set\u00fabal werden die bekanntesten und besten reinsortigen Weine aus der Sorte hergestellt.<\/p>\n<h2>Wie schmeckt der Wein?<\/h2>\n<p>Castel\u00e3o l\u00e4sst Weine entstehen, die mit intensiven Aromen dunkler Fr\u00fcchte \u00fcberzeugen und eine dezente Gew\u00fcrznote aufweisen. Am Gaumen sind sie kraftvoll und besitzen einen hohen <a href=\"\/magazin\/weinwissen\/tannine-im-rotwein\/\">Tanningehalt<\/a> sowie eine <a href=\"\/magazin\/weinwissen\/saeuregehalt-im-wein-der-schluessel-zu-geschmack-und-qualitaet\/\">frische S\u00e4ure<\/a> \u2013 eine Kombination, die eine <a href=\"\/magazin\/frag-die-weinfreunde\/warum-wein-lagern\/\">lange Lagerf\u00e4higkeit<\/a> erm\u00f6glicht. Junge Weine der Rebsorte k\u00f6nnen etwas adstringierend wirken, doch gereifte Exemplare geben sich \u00e4u\u00dferst sanft und elegant.
